In a major operation, police stopped two trucks traveling on the Bara-Kathmandu route carrying illegal products worth more than NPR 142 million and arrested them.
The trucks were stopped
by the police at Pathlaiya for a normal inspection after loading goods in
Birgunj and leaving for Bhairahawa and Kathmandu. According to Bara District
Police Superintendent (SP) Suresh Kafle, during the inspection, law enforcement
officials found illegal products with a total estimated worth of NPR
142,851,851.
One of the trucks, with the license plate Na 6 Kha 3828, was traveling in the direction of Bhairahawa, and the other, with the license plate Na 8 Kha 4842, was traveling in the direction of Kathmandu. In Pathlaiya, both were stopped for inspection late on Wednesday night.
The truck with
registration Na 6 Kha 3828 was found to be carrying goods worth NPR 49,082,443,
and the truck with registration Na 8 Kha 4842 carried illegal products worth
NPR 92,198,408. The results of this investigation were reported by SP Kafle.
Both vehicles, along with the cargo they were carrying, were taken into police custody for additional examination after it was determined that the value of the illegal products exceeded what was reported in the invoices and bills of lading. The Bara District Police's Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Dadhiram Nyupane, informed the media of the development.
There were more items
in the seized container than were listed in the declaration and bills that came
with it, which led to suspicions of smuggling activities. A police
investigation into the situation has begun, and where necessary, legal action
will be taken. This operation demonstrates the government's dedication to
stopping illegal trade and making sure that illegal products don't wind up
where they're supposed to.
