Nijgadh - President Ramchandra Paudel has asked the United Nations to be serious about the negative consequences that Nepal has suffered even though climate change is not a factor.
He has also asked the UN
to take the initiative to fulfill the responsibilities of the developed countries
that have become the factors of climate change to reduce the effects
of climate change.
During his official
visit to Nepal, the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres,
had a friendly meeting with President Poudel at Sheetal Niwas on Sunday. In
their conversation, President Poudel's press advisor, Kiran Pokharel, conveyed a
heartfelt appeal to Guterres.
We are not the cause of
climate change. We have been killed because others have emitted more carbon, in
such a situation, the United Nations should make those who destroy the
environment hesitate to fulfill their responsibilities," Pokharel said,
quoting the words of President Paudel, "We have done our best, now the
whole world and mankind will have to do it, so we all must make a joint effort.
let's do The United Nations should take the lead in that.'
Paudel also expressed
his belief that since the General Secretary himself will visit places like
Mount Everest and Annapurna Base Camp, he will be able to feel how the White
Mountains are turning black, and what is the effect of excessive rain and lack of
rain.
President Paudel said
that Nepal has moved forward in completing the rest of the peace process
according to the peace agreement and said that the rest of the work will be
completed based on the principles of reconciliation, taking into account the
court order and the interests of the United Nations so that the victims are not
given relief, impunity will not be tolerated.
Stating that the role
of the United Nations has increased in the current complex world political
situation, he reminded that Nepal is the second largest contributor to the
United Nations peacekeeping mission. He also asked for the responsibility of
the leadership level of the Nepalese army deployed in the peacekeeping force.
During his visit, Secretary-General Guterres emphasized the significance of Nepal's role in addressing climate change, highlighting that Nepal doesn't have any significant weaknesses in carbon emissions, yet it experiences some of the most severe impacts. He used the context of the "Kop" or the Everest region to convey a message to the world about climate change, making his visit to Nepal a top priority.
In their visit to
Nepal, they centered their efforts around three key agendas, emphasizing the
success of peace processes, the impact of climate change, and the role of
global instability. They conveyed a message to the world about Nepal's
relevance in addressing these inequalities by putting Nepal in the right place.
