Nijgadh, Bara – A three-day cataract surgery camp, organized by Tilganga Eye Hospital, has brought light back into the lives of hundreds in Nijgadh. The camp, held from September 17 to 19 (Ashoj 1–3, 2082 BS) at Nijgadh Tilganga Community Eye Hospital, successfully restored the vision of 345 patients, who had been living in darkness due to cataracts.
Patients came from villages across Bara and Rautahat districts, many of them struggling with blurred vision or complete blindness. Through screening camps and with the support of local governments, they were brought to Nijgadh for free surgeries, carried out by a five-member team of expert doctors under the leadership of renowned ophthalmologist Dr. Sagar Ruit. For many, the operation
was life-changing. Mahendra Kumar Soni, one of the patients, expressed his joy
after regaining his sight:For a long time, it felt like I was living in
darkness. Now, being able to see clearly again feels like being given a new
life,”* he said, his voice filled with gratitude.
Deepak Subedi, the
hospital in-charge, highlighted the urgent need for such camps in Madhesh
Province. Cataracts are very common in Bara and Rautahat, but many people
cannot afford treatment. Without interventions like these, they are forced to
live in darkness,” he explained. He
added that Nijgadh Tilganga Community Eye Hospital will continue to organize
such free camps regularly to reach more people in need.
