Bara — Police from the Mahendra Adarsha Area Police Office have arrested social activist Pradeep Kushwaha, a resident of Ward No. 1, Chiutaha in Adarsha Kotwal Rural Municipality, Bara.
According to locals, Kushwaha was called for a “discussion” by the police but was instead taken into custody, sparking widespread outrage on social media.
Community
members, social workers, and concerned citizens have strongly condemned the
arrest, accusing the police of acting under the direction of the local
government leadership. They have demanded Kushwaha’s immediate and
unconditional release, calling the move an attack on citizens’ right to speak
out against corruption and injustice.
Meanwhile,
the Bara District Police Office stated that Kushwaha was detained for
investigation related to the recent arson incident at the rural municipality
office.
Kushwaha
and a group of local youths had earlier padlocked the Adarsha Kotwal Rural
Municipality office indefinitely, protesting alleged corruption and
irregularities.
Residents
say the arrest has only deepened frustration and distrust toward the local
administration. “Instead of listening to the voices of concerned citizens, the
authorities have chosen intimidation,” said one local youth. “We just want
honesty and accountability — not handcuffs for those who demand it.”
