In Kathmandu on August 10th, there was an event organized by the Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Security (MoLESS) to talk about making foreign jobs safer and more organized. They're taking steps to improve the lives of workers who go abroad for work, with the help of the Foreign Employment Board.
During this event, a Joint Secretary named Rajeev Pokharel talked about how the MoLESS is working hard to do a better job. They want to give foreign workers more benefits and support. For example, if a Nepali worker dies while working in another country, their family will now receive more money - 1 million rupees instead of 700,000 rupees.
They're also planning to take care of the health of workers who return from foreign jobs. This includes providing counseling for their mental and emotional well-being, as well as health check-up camps in different countries. The government is also trying to stop fraudulent activities, and they're making the social security fund services better.
One of the important people in the event, Secretary Kewal Prasad Bhandari, mentioned that the MoLESS is really focused on making sure that going abroad for work is safe and organized. They want to give people the right information and protect them from scams.
Secretary Bhandari said, "We're definitely going to keep sending Nepalis to work abroad. But we want to make sure everything is well-organized and secure, and we want to solve any problems that come up." He also talked about how many people get cheated because they don't have enough information. So, they want to use different media to spread the word and help people avoid scams.
During the event, Madan Dahal, who is in charge of the Department of Foreign Employment (DoFE), said that the MoLESS is very serious about managing foreign jobs. He said, "The DoFE is like a supervisor for foreign employment. We need to make sure people know about fraud and how to avoid it. Lack of information is a big problem, so raising awareness is really important."
