The Ward Chairpersons of Birgunj Metropolitan City removed more than 450 laborers who were involved in daily cleaning work, tractor drivers, computer operators, and city police personnel a month ago, citing the interruption of the cleanliness campaign. Expressing concerns over the removal of laborers working in daily cleaning, the Ward Chairpersons have also expressed their worry about the disruption of cleanliness and dissatisfaction among local residents.
Due to the lack of employees, local residents have reportedly expressed their anger, and they have issued a warning to stage protests at the Municipal Office. On Friday morning, the Ward Chairpersons had requested Mayor Rajesh Man Singh to immediately arrange for the re-appointment of employees, citing the decision of the fourth board meeting held in Jestha 2074 to appoint additional laborers, tractor drivers, computer operators, and daily cleaners in each ward. According to the Ward Chairpersons, the removal of these employees has affected the services of the Ward Office and has also had an impact on the implementation of the cleanliness campaign. The
chairman of Ward No. 25, Ashutosh Chaturvedi, expressed his worry that the
cleaning work in his ward had stopped because of a lack of employees. He
claimed that because there were no tractor drivers, waste was collected
for weeks, disappointing the general population. We can no longer stand the outrage
of the people, Chaturvedi declared. Otherwise, we shall give them the keys to
the ward and the metropolis must supply personnel.
Pradeep
Chaurasia, the chairman of Ward No. 5, said that important services like birth
registration, death registration, referrals, etc. have been impacted by the
withdrawal of computer operators in some wards and must now be submitted to the
office of the Metropolitan Corporation. He stressed the challenges of delivering
basic services and the weight of dissatisfaction among the public.
More
than 450 employees have reportedly been fired, even though they had been
selected by the board of directors and the council when they were recruited,
according to chief administrative officer Lakshmi Prasad Paudel. The unexpected
shift has questioned the city's attempts to maintain cleanliness and beauty.
Ramesh
Yadav, the ward president of ward number 15, expressed his worry regarding the
great developments the city underwent last year. However, such attempts
were impeded when the chief administrative officer fired the ward staff,
which caused anger among the populace.
Mayor
Singh agreed that there was a staffing issue affecting service delivery. He
promised to address the issue while directing the ward president to take
advantage of all resources at his command.
A
complaint has been sent to the mayor by ward presidents Jagat Sah Kanu, Pradap
Chaurasia, Jay Prakash Agarwal, Suresh Gupta, Ramesh Yadav, Sanju Chhatkuli,
and Ashutosh Chaturvedi, among others. The meeting was attended by Ward
President of Ward No. 26 Shambhu Mishra.
On
August 29, Chief Administrative Officer Paudel sent out a notice informing
people that the daily wage and door-to-door employees had been fired on August
26 for breaking the rules.
