A powerful earthquake that shocked western Nepal on Friday night. About 157 people reported died and 170 were injured. According to the National Earthquake Monitoring and Research Centre, a 6.4 magnitude earthquake was recorded at 11:47 p.m. in Jajarkot district. Witnesses reported that structures hundreds of miles away began to shake and that residences in the region had collapsed.
According to the latest update released by the Nepal Police, 105 people died in Jajarkot and 52 people in Rukum West. 170 people were injured due to the earthquake. 81 people were injured in Jajarkot and 78 people were injured in Rukum West.
Out of 81 people injured in Jajarkot, 22 people have been referred to Surkhet for further treatment and are being treated in Banke district, District Police Office Jajarkot said. Out of 85 people injured in Rukum West, seven people were sent to Surkhet 10 people were sent to Nepalgunj and the rest are being treated in the district.
Search and rescue work is still going on. All three security agencies are active in rescuing the injured. Hundreds of houses have been destroyed due to the 6.4 Richter scale earthquake. The earthquake occurred at 11:47 last night with its epicenter at Ramidanda in Jajarkot.
Just before this, at 7:39 a.m. on October 22, a 6.1-magnitude earthquake shook the Kathmandu Valley and surrounding areas. There are no casualties or damage reports.
Nepal, which is situated on the ridge where the Tibetan and Indian tectonic plates collide and move two meters closer to one another each century, experiences frequent earthquakes as a result of pressure being released. In 2015, an earthquake of a magnitude of 7.8 and its aftershocks claimed the lives of about 9,000 people.
According to the government's post-disaster needs assessment (PDNA) study, Nepal ranks eleventh globally regarding earthquake frequency.
