The Nepal Telecommunications Authority has written a letter to the social media platform TikTok, requesting cooperation in implementing the decision of the Nepalese government to restrict its access within the country. The Chairman of the Authority, Purushottam Khanal, discussed this matter with the BBC, indicating that they have approached TikTok to support the government's decision for effective implementation.

In
its response to the letter sent by TikTok, the Authority has affirmed its
coordination with the government in enforcing the ban and has requested TikTok
to comply accordingly. The letter mentions TikTok's negative impact on social
harmony and the social environment, as cited by the government, leading to the
decision to block TikTok within Nepal.

letter from the Authority states, "The Nepalese government has directed
the Nepal Telecommunications Authority to halt access to TikTok within Nepal.
Therefore, we request your cooperation in implementing the government's
decision, and we further request you to block TikTok within Nepal."
What
was in TikTok's letter?
Previously,
TikTok had expressed its astonishment at the government's decision to block the
platform in Nepal through an official directive. TikTok's letter emphasized the
economic harm to Nepali youth due to the ban and highlighted the platform's
commitment to user safety. The letter also recalled the understanding with
government bodies in Nepal and referenced seven points of agreement.
TikTok also mentioned its collaboration with the Nepal Telecommunications
Authority in conducting the Internet Safety Awareness Campaign in Nepal.
Additionally, TikTok had reported to the 'Trust and Safety Enforcement Tool
(TET)' regarding any content violating local laws for the Nepalese government
from June 7 to the present year.

Despite
expressing willingness for continued collaboration with the Nepalese
government, TikTok disagreed with the decision to ban and echoed the
principles of freedom of speech and expression.
