Tiktok Sent A Seven-Point Letter To The Authorities After It Was Banned In Nepal.

After the imposition of a ban by the Nepalese government, TikTok has expressed its disagreement by sending a letter to the Nepal Telecommunications Authority, as confirmed by the authority's chairman. According to information obtained by the BBC, TikTok has recalled in seven key points the understanding it had with the government agencies in Nepal and the discussions held in the country.

 The government, on the day it imposed the ban, this past Monday, has conveyed through the sent letter its stance to the authority. Last Monday, the government decided to shut down TikTok, citing the platform's role in "promoting unrest in social harmony and the environment." Additionally, the directive had instructed internet service providers in Nepal not to allow access to TikTok.

 As per the received letter, TikTok has expressed astonishment at the government's decision to shut down the platform through its official directive.

 In the received letter, TikTok has informed the Nepal Telecommunications Authority that it considers itself 'shocked' by the government's decision to shut down the platform, as per the decision communicated through the official directive. The letter highlights that the ban on TikTok brings economic harm to Nepali youth.

 Emphasizing the importance of user safety, TikTok has noted that ensuring the security of its users is of utmost priority. The letter also recalls the understanding reached with the government bodies in Nepal and mentions seven points of understanding with the Nepalese government agencies.

 TikTok has also made reference to its collaboration with Nepal Telecommunications Authority in conducting the Internet Safety Awareness Campaign in Nepal. Additionally, TikTok has mentioned reporting to the 'Trust and Safety Enforcement Tool (TET)' about any material violating local laws for the Nepalese government in the past year, from June 7 to this year.

 TikTok, which had registered itself as a digital service provider in Nepal on August 29, also reminded about the removal of 2.98 million videos violating the 'Community Guidelines' from October 2022 to June this year.

 What does the Authority do now?

 Purushottam Khanal, the chairman of the Nepal Telecommunications Authority, has confirmed the receipt of the letter from TikTok and stated, "They have expressed their disagreement in the letter they sent."

 "Now that we have received the letter, we will send the information to the relevant authorities. As the decision to close TikTok has been made by the government, we will provide the information through the letter to the Ministry of Communications," he added.

 He mentioned that due to the authority's inability to respond to TikTok's ban and the lack of communication, the government's decision will be the final information on the matter.
