Jeetour – The district court of Bara has granted police permission to keep Sunil Gupta, the ward chair of Jitpur Simara Sub-Metropolitan City-7, in custody for seven days for further investigation.

The incident took place on the night of March 14 (Holi festival) when Gupta and a group of individuals allegedly entered the house of Parashuram Giri in Jitpur Simara-7. Giri, who legally owns a firearm, stated that he was forced to fire to protect his son and grandson from what he described as a life-threatening attack by Gupta and his group.

Initially, the District Administration Office attempted to mediate a settlement between the two parties, but when no agreement was reached, Bara police arrested Gupta on Sunday. The issue gained further attention on Monday when former minister and Member of Parliament for Bara-4, Krishna Kumar Shrestha, raised the matter in Parliament, adding pressure on the police to act.

According to police sources, the Bara police have also obtained court approval to arrest 10 more individuals allegedly involved in the incident. Their identities have not been disclosed yet.

This is not the first time Ward Chair Gupta has faced legal trouble. Last year, he was charged with criminal misconduct after leading a bulldozer into the house of Jitpur resident Rajuraj Giri. That case is still under review at the High Court, and now, he has been arrested for a similar offense again.

Bara Police Chief, Superintendent Santosh Tamang, confirmed that Gupta will remain in custody for seven days as the investigation continues. Gupta was presented before the Bara District Court on Monday following his arrest the previous day.
