Bara- Jeetpur Simara Sub-Metropolitan City is commemorating its 9th founding anniversary today, marking a significant milestone for one of Nepal's 17 largest local administrative divisions. To observe the occasion, the municipality has declared a public holiday, closing all its affiliated offices and educational institutions.
The decision for the public holiday was made by the municipal chief on Sunday, as announced by Officer Purna Prasad Tiwari in a public notice.
From Gadhimai to Jeetpur Simara:
Jeetpur Simara Sub-Metropolitan City, formerly Gadhimai Municipality, has undergone significant expansion and transformation. It now encompasses the entirety of former Bhawanipur Jeetpur, Piparasimara, Dumarwana, Fatepur, Chhatapipara, and Amlekhgunj Village Development Committees (VDCs), along with portions of Manharwa (Wards 1, 2, 3, 7, 8, 9), Haraiya (Ward 1), and Rampurtokani (Ward 3) VDCs. The municipality is comprised of 24 wards.
According to the 2068 National Census, Jeetpur Simara has a population of 117,950 and covers an area of approximately 314 square kilometers. It shares borders with Nijgadh Municipality, Kolhabi Municipality, and Karaiyamai Rural Municipality to the east, Birgunj Metropolitan City to the west, Hetauda Sub-Metropolitan City to the north, and Parwanipur Rural Municipality, Prasauni Rural Municipality, and Kalaiya Sub-Metropolitan City to the south.
The transition from Gadhimai Municipality, which originally consisted of 16 wards formed from the amalgamation of Piparasimara, Bhawanipur Jeetpur, Dumarwana, Fatepur, and Chhatapipara VDCs, to Jeetpur Simara involved a comprehensive restructuring of ward boundaries.
The current ward structure reflects the integration of these former VDCs, with specific wards combined to form the 24 wards of the sub-metropolitan city. Notably, the incorporation of sections from Manharwa, Inarwasira, Amlekhgunj, Rampur Tokani, and Prastoka VDCs expanded the municipality's reach and scope.
The 9th anniversary celebration provides an opportunity for the residents of Jeetpur Simara to reflect on the municipality's growth and progress, and to look forward to its continued development.
