Pawan Singh Nijgadh – The inaugural
Bikal Regmi Memorial Junior Football Tournament burst into action on Monday,
and it was Ward Number 1 who emerged victorious in the opening match. In a
spirited contest held at the Shahid Hiralal Stadium in Ward Number 9, the young
talents of Ward Number 1 showcased their prowess, netting two goals against a
determined but ultimately scoreless Ward Number 9 team.
The tournament's opening ceremony was graced by former Minister for Youth and Sports, Purushottam Paudel, who expressed his delight at the municipality's efforts in organizing such events to nurture football in Nijgadh. Presiding over the event was the Mayor of Nijgadh, Surath Puri.
Former Minister Paudel lauded the municipality's commitment to developing football through various sporting competitions, including the Mayor Cup. He voiced his optimism that the Bikal Regmi Junior Football Tournament would become a recurring event, playing a crucial role in identifying and fostering young footballing talent.The significance of the tournament and the importance of developing football at the grassroots level were further emphasized by Deputy Mayor of Nijgadh, Sommaya Thing, former Mayor Suresh Kumar Khanal, and member of the sports committee, Swarna Lama, who were also present at the opening ceremony.
The excitement continues tomorrow, Tuesday, with two more matches scheduled. The first match will kick off at 3:30 PM, featuring a clash between Ward Number 5 and Ward Number 11. Following that, at 5:00 PM, Ward Number 3 will lock horns with Ward Number 12.
