Bara: Nijgadh is preparing to welcome taekwondo athletes and sports lovers as the 4th Madhes Province–level Open Taekwondo Championship will be held on Poush 4 and 5.
The championship is being organised by Shri Janjyoti Basic Taekwondo Dojang and will take place at the Janjyoti Basic School premises in Nijgadh Municipality–9. The two-day event is expected to create a lively and competitive sporting atmosphere in the town.
According to Raju
Majhi, chief of the organising dojang, more than 200 players from 20 taekwondo dojangs across all eight districts of Madhes Province
will participate in the championship, making it one of the major
provincial-level taekwondo events of the year.
Information shared during a press conference held at Rajmarg Hotel revealed that competitions
will be conducted in nine weight categories
for men and seven for women. In addition, Poomsae events will be held in both individual and pair categories, allowing
athletes to showcase technique and discipline alongside strength.
The winning team
will be awarded a trophy and medals,
while players securing first and second
positions in each weight category will receive medals along with cash prizes. First-place
winners will be awarded Rs 1,000,
and second-place winners Rs 500.
Moreover, the best male and female
players of the championship will each receive a cash prize of Rs 2,500 in recognition of
their outstanding performance.
Organiser Raju Majhi informed that the championship
will be conducted with support from various donors and well-wishers, with an
estimated total cost of around Rs 500,000.
The defending
champions of the tournament are Priya
Taekwondo Dojang of Dhanusha. The first edition of the championship was won by the host Janjyoti Basic Taekwondo Dojang, while
the second edition title went to
Creative Taekwondo Dojang of Mahottari.
Speaking at the press conference, Guru Prasad Gautam, Central Member of
the Nepal Taekwondo Association,
said that such competitions play a crucial role in the growth of taekwondo in
Madhes Province by bringing forward new talent, encouraging healthy
competition, and strengthening sportsmanship among athletes.
To ensure smooth management of the championship, an
organising team has been formed under the leadership of manager Raju Majhi. Anu Basnet will handle guest reception, Udayaraj Pandey referee management, Gaurav Dahal player management, Nishant Aryal hotel coordination, Pawan Shrestha sports equipment
management, Hemlal Shrestha as
advisor, Ishwar Sapkota as
all-round support, and Maheshwar Adhikari
as media coordinator.
With strong participation
and dedicated organisation, the championship is expected to provide young
athletes with valuable exposure and further strengthen the taekwondo culture in
Madhes Province.
