Pawam Singh Bara – Gaurishankar Secondary School from Nijgadh-8 has proudly lifted the trophy of the First Municipal-Level Inter-School Cricket Tournament, after a thrilling victory over Gaurishankar Secondary School, Sadkatol of Nijgadh-6, in the final match held on Saturday.
The Nijgadh-8 team
claimed the championship by defeating their opponents by 5 wickets,
walking away with a cash prize of Rs. 30,000 along with the
coveted trophy. The runner-up team from Sadkatol was awarded Rs. 20,000
in recognition of their strong performance.
The final match
and prize ceremony turned into a celebration of local talent and teamwork. The
winners were honoured by a group of dignitaries, including Mayor Surath
Puri, Deputy Mayor Sommaya Thing, Chief
Administrative Officer Rajendra Aryal, Accounts Officer
Shivprasad Devkota, and Education, Youth and Sports Head Uttam
Lamichhane. They handed over the trophies and prizes to the players
amid cheers and applause.
In a gesture of encouragement, Ram Hari Kharel, founder of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) in Nijgadh and the party’s district secretary, gifted a cricket bat and ball to two players who had given outstanding performances throughout the tournament.
Local businessman
and owner of Sagar Book Store, Shankar Thokar,
also stepped in to motivate the young players by distributing cricket
kit bags.
The tournament
brought together 9 schools from the Nijgadh area, offering
students a chance to showcase their passion for cricket and build friendships
beyond classrooms.
This event was
more than just a competition—it was a celebration of youth, community pride,
and the growing importance of sports in shaping confident, disciplined, and
inspired future leaders.
