Like Seeds of Change, Trees Planted to Mark Environment Day in Nijgadh

 NIJGADH, BARA – A tree plantation program was organized in Nijgadh Municipality–9 to mark World Environment Day. The event, held under the slogan "Plastic Pollution Reduction: Our Responsibility," took place within the Adarsha Sadabahar Community Forest area.

The program was organized by the Geo and Watershed Management Office, Birgunj, Parsa, in collaboration with the Adarsha Sadabahar Community Forest of Nijgadh-9.

The event, which began at 8 AM, saw the participation of local residents, forest personnel, journalists, and public representatives. Organizers stated that saplings of various flowering species were planted during the program.

Addressing the event as the chief guest, Nijgadh Municipality Mayor Surath Puri expressed hope that the day would raise awareness among citizens about the harmful effects of plastic and contribute to building a clean and green city. "Plastic is not only affecting the environment but is also seriously impacting the life cycle of wildlife," Mayor Puri said. "Through this campaign, we are moving towards a long-term solution by increasing public participation."

He added that the program is expected to significantly support forest and environment conservation by boosting public awareness against plastic pollution.

The program was chaired by Birendra Prasad Patel, an officer at the Geo-Watershed Management Office, Parsa. Other notable attendees included Ram Prasad Pandey, President of Adarsha Sadabahar Community Forest; Babita Shrestha, Acting Chairperson of Ward No. 9; Niraj Pokhrel, Chief of the Nijgadh Sub-Division Forest Office; Basudev Timalsina and Deepak Shrestha, Vice President and Secretary of the Community Forest Federation, Bara; Kush Bahadur Thapa, President of the Community Forest Federation, Nijgadh; along with Saroj Chaudhary and Chief Accountant Pradip Das from the Geo-Conservation office, and representatives from neighboring community forests.

The program was conducted by Anil Koirala, a Geo-Conservation Assistant from Parsa.
