Nijgadh Bara — To celebrate its 25th Annual General Meeting (Silver Jubilee), Sagarmatha Savings and Credit Cooperative Limited in Nijgadh Municipality-7, Bara, has launched a free eye check-up and medicine distribution camp, spreading hope and care among the local community.
The camp began at 8 a.m. on the premises of Vidyasagar English Boarding School in
Nijgadh-7. It is being held with technical support from Himal Eye Hospital, Biratnagar, and Koshi Eye Hospital, Sunsari.
The programme was chaired by the cooperative’s
president, Bhola Prasad Gautam,
and attended by several guests, including Himal
Eye Hospital chairman Ram Sewak Sah,
hospital director Aman Sah,
medical director Dr. Pramod Sharma Gautam,
coordinator Bindeshwar Sah, OPD
in-charge Ram Prakash Mahato, OT
in-charge Gahendra Karki,
optometrist Satyajit Singh, and
optician Munnu Khan.
The event began with the traditional lighting of the
lamp, symbolising knowledge and service.
Speaking at the inauguration, President Gautam said
that cooperatives should not be limited to financial activities alone but must
remain accountable to society. “Sagarmatha Cooperative has always aimed not
just for economic strength, but for contribution in every aspect of the
community,” he remarked.
He added that as part of its Silver Jubilee
celebrations, the cooperative is also organising quiz contests, speech and art competitions, and a ‘Raktachandan’
programme to promote social awareness and creativity among the youth.
Hundreds of people — including elderly residents,
students, and children — have already benefitted from the free eye check-ups
and received medicines. The hospital’s medical team also provided health advice
and raised awareness about eye care.
In honour of its Silver Jubilee, the cooperative is
preparing to hold a special general meeting
on Kartik 24 and a blood donation camp
on Sunday.
The Sagarmatha Cooperative reaffirmed its commitment
to continue community-focused services and uphold its social responsibility.
Scout students from Gaurishankar Secondary
School have volunteered at the camp, lending youthful energy to the
initiative.
Founded on Kartik
24, 2057 BS by a group of dedicated teachers, the cooperative has played a
vital role over the years in promoting education, health, self-reliance, and
social awareness in the region.
